What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer luxury bed mattress under 3 brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils provide the Saatva Classic a great quantity of bounce near the top, and a plush top includes softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

Keep in mind: Saatva just recently upgraded the Zenhaven, changing the kind of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; learn more about the differences listed below. We plan to test the new version soon and will upgrade this guide with our impressions.

The Zenhaven is likewise flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Company side feels a bit firmer), which may show practical if you’re not sure what you prefer or if your requirements change over time. This is not a traditionally cushy mattress, but it uses a flexible cushion, good edge support, and a subtle springiness.

For this review, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own house. As Wirecutter’s senior staff writer for sleep, I’ve interviewed ratings of experts in the bed mattress market and in products science; visited dozens of mattress display rooms, factories, and shops; and pored over the fine print on requirements, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley evaluated the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for a number of weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. However we do know that the company uses thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (instead of chemicals or fiberglass) and only organic cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress business, Saatva promotes such bonus as zoned layers for “optimal spinal column assistance”; we’re less impressed with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer support and durable foams and coils.
