What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer high-end mattresses under three brand name names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils give the Saatva Classic an excellent amount of bounce near the top, and a plush top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

Keep in mind: Saatva recently upgraded the Zenhaven, changing the type of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; read more about the differences listed below. We prepare to evaluate the new version soon and will upgrade this guide with our impressions.

The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Mild Firm side feels a bit firmer), which might prove practical if you’re not sure what you prefer or if your needs change over time. This is not a traditionally cushy bed mattress, however it offers a flexible cushion, great edge support, and a subtle springiness.

These mattresses were also evaluated in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the best foam mattresses and the best innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I’ve spoken with scores of specialists in the mattress industry and in products science; checked out lots of bed mattress shops, factories, and showrooms; and pored over the fine print on specifications, guarantees, and return policies.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. However we do know that the business uses thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and just organic cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress companies, Saatva touts such bonus as zoned layers for “ideal spine assistance”; we’re less pleased with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer support and durable foams and coils.
