What mattress is better than Saatva?
Established in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer luxury mattresses under 3 brand name names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils offer the Saatva Classic a good amount of bounce near the top, and a luxurious top includes softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is provided by movers, rather than in a box.

The all-foam Zenhaven consists mainly of latex, which is intrinsically durable. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Mild Firm side feels a bit firmer), which may show valuable if you’re not exactly sure what you choose or if your requirements alter with time. This is not a traditionally cushy bed mattress, however it provides a supple cushion, excellent edge support, and a subtle springiness. Given its inherent durability, the Zenhaven must work well for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this review, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven bed mattress for a number of weeks in my own house. These mattresses were also evaluated in our group tests carried out for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam mattresses and the best innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I’ve interviewed scores of experts in the mattress industry and in materials science; visited lots of bed mattress factories, shops, and showrooms; and pored over the fine print on specs, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, monitoring editor Courtney Schley examined the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for numerous weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. We do understand that the business uses thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and just organic cotton (rather of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress business, Saatva promotes such extras as zoned layers for “optimum spinal column support”; we’re less satisfied with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive client service and long lasting foams and coils.
